Our Story
Discover the journey that brought City Rhythm Fragrance to life, from the vibrant streets of Manhattan to your collection.
How It All Began
City Rhythm: A brand that took off starting in a small studio apartment creating bottles for individuals to now becoming an influential character in the space of niche perfumery. City Rhythm was started to capture the rhythm of cities, with scent, to allow users to experience cities with the art of perfumery.
Meet the Founder
Manhattan was never just a place to me.
It was a proving ground.
A teacher.
A mirror of who I was becoming.
I immigrated from the Trinidad & Tobago at twelve years old, stepping into a city that moved faster than anything I had ever known. The culture shock was immediate and overwhelming. My immigration status left me vulnerable, and much of my youth was spent working jobs others overlooked—long hours, little pay, and even less security. But Manhattan, in its relentless pace, had a strange way of revealing light in the darkest moments.
Strangers showed kindness.
Mentors appeared unexpectedly.
And the city itself seemed to whisper possibility.
Even during the hardest days, one small ritual gave me strength: smelling good.
Running deliveries for tips, I saved every dollar I could until I finally bought my first real fragrance—Gucci Pour Homme II. That bottle changed something in me. Scent became more than an accessory; it became armor. When I wore it, I felt worthy. Capable. Like my dreams weren’t foolish—but inevitable.
Fragrance had the power to lift my head high, even when my circumstances tried to pull it down.
That realization never left me.
Manhattan: Where It Started
The city of Manhattan holds a singularly significant place in my heart, making it only fitting that my first creation would be an homage to the place where so many formative chapters of my life unfolded. Arriving from the Caribbean at the age of twelve, I was immediately immersed in the city’s relentless pace, overwhelmed by its scale, energy, and intensity. Life moved quickly, and much of my early experience was shaped by long days, hard work, and the constant motion that defines New York.
Yet even through difficult moments, the magic of Manhattan remained ever-present. It revealed itself in small kindnesses, fleeting encouragements, and the quiet belief that the city itself instills—a sense that anything is possible if you keep moving forward. Manhattan has a way of forging strength, resilience, and vision through contrast.
One constant source of confidence during those years was scent. Saving what I could, I eventually purchased a bottle of Gucci Pour Homme II. That experience was transformative. Fragrance became a way to feel elevated, grounded, and connected to possibility. It revealed the power of scent to shift perspective, evoke confidence, and awaken imagination.
That power is what Manhattan seeks to capture.
Manhattan is a scent of hope, possibility, and self-belief. Fragrance is a powerful evoker of emotion and memory, and for me, it remains the most intimate way to capture a feeling. Manhattan was inspired by the indescribable sensation of looking out at the Manhattan skyline—the juxtaposition of natural stillness against the endlessly kinetic glow of a sleepless city.
This fragrance plays with the alluring and enigmatic aura of New York City. Reflecting a city of many faces, Manhattan melds freshness with intensity, opening as brightly as headlights glinting off mirrored skyscrapers before settling into a darker, more sensuous reflection of the city’s inner world. Like its namesake, Manhattan lends its energy to every season and occasion—fresh enough for summer evenings, yet bold enough to cut through winter cold.
The evolving contrast between light and dark unfolds on the skin, enticing and intriguing the senses. Captivating bergamot at the top dances with warm notes of cinnamon before incense introduces a subtle shift toward depth. As the fragrance transitions, the incense reveals rich tobacco leaf and comforting vanilla, grounding the composition in warmth and confidence.
Manhattan is the rhythm of a city captured in scent.
